Question: Short Answer/Essay
|
|
What aspect of this course could be changed to increase student learning or interest level?
|
|
- more interactive game-like activities.(i.e. mineral prospecting)
- I don't think it is fair that most of the same people answered the study quiz questions. Make it mandatory or partially mandatory, eg. answer x amount of questions per class. Also, Dr. King, you said you don't have a html spellcheck. I think most of the extra-credit points awarded to people because of the hard work and because they earned it was nothing more than a simple copy paste into work and run the spell check. I feel people didn't really earn what they did.
- an explanation of things in the pictures from the landslide lesson. Plus i would have liked more information about the quizes cause if we were in class the teachers give more clues about what will be on the quizzes.
- Maybe a chat line with a specific time for questions and comments. more interaction.
- On the landslide assessment with the pictures in which we have to say why a landslide occurred, I think that the pictures could be better labeled as to what the different colors mean.
- Web page reading, maybe sites highlighted within the site
- The assignments, some were pretty unclear and I couldnt understand what you were looking for.
- I wish the tests had a couple more questions(perhaps multiple choice on terms) to help get a better grade. I found the tests challenging! I'd get 100's on all the homework for a lesson and then get an 80 on the test.? This was after numerous hours of studying!!
- In some way make the surface water lessen more interesting.
- Nothing, according to THIS student.
- I think it is pretty much perfect the way it is. It was very well thought out, carried through and communication was outstanding.
- I feel that I learned a great deal in the course, and would take another one.
- I think the aspects of this course are fine but some assignments have to be more user friendly.
- More specific instuctions on studying for tests.
- No Response
- How about, adding a bonus question at the end of some of the quizes pertaining to something currently in the news related to that topic? This would keep people intersested in current developments in environmental geology.
- I feel that this format should not expect high level of knowledge of computer use. Many students who are not computer students, but do have a working knowledge of "basic" skills, should not be expected to perform class activities using advanced skills. The example is using the Paint program to make a map. Although challenging, is not easy, and would take a lot of practice to excell at this type of task. The course should not expect that since it is a Geology class and not a Computer class.
- The study questions were good, but I think a practice quiz would help too.
- I feel that I actually learned a lot from this courses because there were many activities to go along with the information provided. Even though I sat trying to figure out every activity for hours, it was really rewarding after you finished it.
- There were some activities that were difficult to do because I felt that I wasn't given enough information to complete them without guessing on most of it, the snowpack monitoring activity for example.
- Maybe some kind of group activity for future classes would be interesting.
- Earthquake
- For those of us who are not "science " oriented but still enjoy learning about the amazing nature of the planet we live on it would be a bit more enjoyable to have wider parameters in which a student would be able to find thier niche in in order to ensure a better grade than within the current parameters set.
- I might want better directions on the snow melt problem. There was another exersize that was not clear but I can't remember which one it was. I am sure the grades will reflect it.
- The ground water contamination. The activity to me was explain with some confusion.
- There should be more of a lecture-like introduction to each chapter, not just one page. This page should try to make up for the fact that online students can't get a lecture.
- I found that this course was very educational and there was not much that I would have changed. As I said, this is the first course I have taken online and I was very pleased.
- THE FILL IN THE BLANK QUIZ QUESTIONS!!!! OPEN TO SPECULATION. end of story.
- I don't think there is a whole lot more that can be done. It is really interesting now.
- A chat room instead of only postings.
- More practice of graph interpretations.
- More websites and assignments that need to be constructed by the students--like the paint program.
- Nothing. I prefer to take my classes on line than I do in an actual classroom setting.
- the ground water section
- relate it better to things we are interested in such as poluution, or current events problems
- possibly more instructor hints on some of the harder assignments - especially for students who have little background in using maps, etc.
- The web-pages in the beginning were a waste of time. The only major dislike of the course was the gradual lessening of the the work load. Each lesson, beyond the fourth seemed to get less involved.
- Some of the web sites were a little long. (As far as the reading assignments) but they were still interesting.
- Make the quizes more interesting.
- With this book it was hard to relate activity information with the text. You may want to write a text for this course.
- The quizes
- Less activities
